GARETH DAVIE: HIGH-ENERGY POP ARTIST WITH A UNIQUE SOUND

We are pleased to introduce you to Gareth Davie.

Born and raised in Pembrokeshire, Wales, Gareth Davie is a guitarist and singer-songwriter with a distinctive high-energy pop sound that spans all aspects of the genre. Taking influence from his background in Jazz and Funk, as well as his passion for blues, rock, and EDM, his music is a melting pot of sounds that still come together to create something uniquely authentic and individual.

Live, Gareth is joined by a 7-piece band complete with a horn section. It focuses on lively, virtuosic performances while not sacrificing the intimate nature of a solo artist, dedicating a portion of his shows to low-volume acoustic songs.

Gareth has been heavily involved in music from a young age, but it wasn’t until 2020, when he began to learn music production, that he found his true passion, self-producing his first fully original album, The Real Thing, in 2021.
He released his single Ruin My Life in March 2023 to a very positive reception, and the track quickly became a fan favourite.

After taking a year-long hiatus, Gareth returned in 2024, releasing his singles Bad Influence, Corner Store, and Never Coming Back in preparation for his second album release in early 2025.

Team IM: Tell us more about Gareth Davie.

I am so passionate about pop music and music in general – and I want to share that love with everybody who listens to me, either streaming or live.

I also want to provide more opportunities for exceptionally talented local musicians to perform by putting on shows that don’t just focus on myself.

Hopefully, I’ll have news to share on that in the future!

Team IM: Tell us more about your latest release, ‘Never Coming Back'.

Never Coming Back, released on 3rd December 2024, is the 4th single from Gareth’s upcoming second self-produced album. It draws from a personal experience of breaking free from a toxic relationship, realising that you are not only happier but a stronger and better person now.

It’s one of many of Gareth’s tracks to feature Chris Coveney (@thechriscoveney) on drums, but this song, in particular, puts them in the spotlight and brings a hugely energetic quality to the track. It was produced and mixed by Gareth and mastered by Johnny Hurst (@jxstjohnny).

Team IM: What inspired ‘Never Coming Back’?

Musically, Never Coming Back is inspired by similar pop/rock/dance anthems, including One Direction’s Drag Me Down and Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble. Following the release of The Real Thing, I wanted to perform bigger, more exciting music, so I looked to draw more from rock and dance music than I had in the past.

The absolute essential item for us on tour is...

Pub recommendations for post-show celebrations.

Our most challenging journey for the least payoff led us to...

Spending multiple rehearsals practising a new song, only to cut it for a time in the middle of a gig.

Anywhere with a Gareth Davie sticker or QR code.

The best part of performing live is the feeling of...

People not only coming to watch me perform my silly love songs – but singing them back to me. I’ve never felt prouder than in that moment.

The silliest thing ever said onstage was...

Anything Andrei says – that boy is an enigma.

How we prepare for a show...

Chatting about our day to the sound of the horn players blasting out high notes in the bathroom to warm up. Got to finish it off with a hype up though.

@melo_exeter does the best pastries in Exeter, and the vibes are immaculate.

Shout out to a local business in Exeter...

Exploding Bakery – the staff are wonderful and I’ve never been more productive than when I’m working there.
