FROM SOUNDTRACKS TO BIKE TRACKS – RIDING THE RHYTHM OF EXETER

Discover Exeter on two wheels

At Involving Music, we encourage music lovers and gig-goers to extend their stay after the show and explore the city’s offerings.

Exeter, a cycle-friendly city, invites you to experience its charm and beauty from the saddle of a bicycle. The city is a cyclist’s paradise if you’re visiting Exeter for a music event, gig, or concert.

In fact, everything is accessible within a breezy 30-minute ride.

Exeter boasts numerous cycle routes, including dedicated bus and cycle lanes and quieter roads that are part of a well-structured cycle network.

These routes provide a safer cycling experience, steering you away from busier traffic and into more tranquil city areas.

Where to cycle:

The Exe Estuary Trail offers a fantastic cycling adventure for those feeling adventurous. This 26-mile, mostly flat route circles the entire Exe Estuary, linking Exmouth, Exeter, and Dawlish with stunning views of the River Exe.

It’s a perfect route for new and experienced cyclists looking to explore the city’s outskirts while enjoying the coastal landscapes.

If you’re looking for a smooth ride with rhythm all its own, the Exeter Canal cycle route is your track of choice. This serene, nearly traffic-free path offers a leisurely escape alongside the National Cycle Network route 2.

You’ll glide past tranquil RSPB reserves and historic locks, perfect for a post-gig wind down or a daytime exploration.

Can I hire a bike?

Absolutely.  Exeter is home to several bike hire facilities that cater to all needs. Saddles & Paddles along the Quay and Route 2 Bikes in Topsham offer various rental options, including bikes suited for families.

A bit further afield (and indeed a place worth visiting) is Haldon Forest. If you’re feeling an adrenaline-fuelled adventure ride or a leisurely cycle, Haldon Forest Park is the perfect saddle spot. Forest Cycle Hire is the only approved cycle hire centre based at the 3,500-acre Haldon Forest Park near Exeter with over a hundred adult and child mountain bikes for hire and now electric bikes too.

Their purpose-built trails range from easy to technical and are for all ability levels.

Support these local businesses by hiring bikes for a gateway to explore the brilliant landscapes surrounding the historic city.
